The computer is a complex thing. Sometimes the source of constant enjoyment, sometimes the source of constant frustration. And now, it is the latter. My computer crashed.
Down, down it went.
And I reloaded.
And it crashed.
And I reinstalled.
And it crashed.
Of course all of this is added to by the fact that my power cord doesn't work properly and makes my computer crash. That and my battery takes about 5 to 6 HOURS to recharge. The battery alone is fine, but it only last for an hour at max. Ah yes. Painful it is.
So Christina said she would try to get me a new one. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. In the mean time, my brother (I called using long distance) and I talked for several hours as he walked me through how to format my computer, and then install windows XP using my father`s CD. Thank you Geoff, thank you Dad. Which was great, except my computer crashed during the process, and since my dad`s CD is an updated version in order to continue I had to get an older model of windows, 2000 or less. So at work today, two guys went to the town office and found me a copy of windows 95 to use to finish formatting my computer. So half way through, it crashes again. The power cord. So my supervisor has a HP computer at home (cause we tried all the other AC adapters in the office and they didn't work), and so she went home and got it. Then it crashed again, and so I took the battery out, and just used the power cord. SUCCESS. Finally, it formatted, and windows was installed. The only thing now is that I don`t have word or any of those other loved programs on my computer. But considering how many people it took just to fix it so far, I feel lucky it turns on. Big lesson in always taking your laptop software with you.
The high light of today has definitely been going to the bank (I know it sounds lame). But on the way, I met with three first grade elementary school children and they wanted to play. But I told them I had to go to the bank and left. They followed me to the bank, sat with me (despite me trying to sit quietly they were giggling the whole time and all trying to sit on my lap). Then we walked back (after I was done finally), and to the board of education that is right beside the park. They wanted to play, and I told them I had to get back to work. Then they complained that work is not important. I had to laugh at this, because if it was up to me, I would be playing tag in the park. But I don`t think my office would enjoy looking out the window and seeing me running around instead of sitting here looking like I am working. Course you never know.
So yes, big frustrations in the Heather world. Hopefully it cures my computer. Seems pointless having a computer with a DVD player, that only plays movies in parts before crashing, a recordable CD player, that sometimes works, and a 30 minute time limit for all computer activities.
Oh, but I did manage to go for a walk this morning. For an hour before work. That was enjoyable. And now my big day. We will see if I am still in one piece when everything is said and done.
And remember, just like the kid said, "work is not important"!
