Grapefruit seed extract. By far, it is the worst thing I have ever tasted, bar none! As soon as its diluted form (either in water or juice), has reached your taste buds you are in for instant gagging. It sort of tastes like bile in a bottle. Yes, this is one taste you will remember. Why am I drinking such a delectable drink? Well, because it seems I have developed a kidney infection. Stemming from the hospital stuff I had to go through on Monday. The drugs definitely made me quite ill, or, it is from a nice bug in the sushi I ate.

Mmmmm, raw fish. I do like it at times, one or two pieces, but that is it. That is far as the love goes. My fellow sushi goers and at least all of the Japanese friends I have ate sushi with, can polish down 12-18 kaiten sushi plates worth of sushi (this is usually two pieces to every plate). While I have about 4 plates of sushi, and another 4 of sushi potatoes. Well, actually they are called University potatoes, cause it was so darn smart to think of them. Boo, I know. Okay, they are deep fried, cooled, and then they put on this candy coating that tastes like honey but makes them REALLY crunchy on the outside and soft potato goodness on the inside. Ah yes, an instant favorite for most. And by most I mean me. So anyway, that was Saturday.

Today is Thursday. Christina’s second last day in Japan, and I am ill. Ah yes, the joys. And it is her that brought out the grapefruit seed extract to feed me, because the pills were making me so ill. A natural alternative. So far it seems to be working and all the other times she has nursed me back to health have turned out. So really I should be thanking her and the universe for helping me cure my ailment, but if you had to taste this stuff…man oh man…I was thinking of packing up my stuff and taking off for the next two days just so I don’t have to drink it again.

Anyway, I am off to go get ready for Christina’s going away dinner at Dr. Kanaya’s house. Thankfully when the plans were made 2 weeks before, and Christina was confronted with the choice between tempura party or sushi party, she picked tempura. I hope I can just eat rice.
