Monday, the dreaded 6 letter word. Monday in and of itself is fine, but the work I have to do each Monday is something I have disliked for a 2 years now. And every Sunday night I am a little bit apprehensive about going to sleep because that means I am a little closer to Monday. But enough about that.
The weekend was a very short weekend. Why was I not told it would only consist of 2 days. When did the 10 day weekend get downsized?
Saturday was horseback riding. Ah yes, me in a riding arena with horses, hay, dust, and cats, for any of you who know how allergic I am to all of those will understand my pain. For those who don't, well let's just say I had purple rings around my eyes and my system was in the fetal position. But it was fun. Fun in the sense that I didn't fall off or have a bad experience, and fun that I could still breathe a few hours later. But it is always great to see the farmer people. Before we left (after they had brought us horseback riding and bought us lunch), they gave us milk, boiled potatoes, mountain vegetables, miso paste, potatoes, and carrots. Yes I feel truly lucky to know them.
After showering and changing clothes and swallowing another allergy pill, it was off to Rankoshii for Scottish dancing. Good times to be had by all, and funny enough there were 20 ALTs that showed up. A lot of foreigners for a little event. So we danced, and sweat, and then by the end, managed to make it home before falling a sleep by 7 or so. Sad really.
Then came Sunday. Still thinking that there were a few days left in my weekend, Christina and I decided to do an overhaul on my house. We moved around the furniture in my room, cleaning, sorting, and then after that tore up my ancient disgusting rug to reveal a nice wooden floor beneath. A lot nicer than the rug, that was never properly put down and that could not be cleaned even after several steam cleans. But anyway, so we rolled it up and there was a huge layer of silk like dirt underneath. We hauled the rug roll into the attic and then cleaned the wood floor several times, sweeping, mopping. And now as I write this (at work), Christina is cleaning the floor one more time and then waxing it. The plan is to bring in my last year here as nicely as possible. Which means finally dealing with things that make my house unpleasant. And a rug that gives me allergies and makes me itchy to sit on it, is just one of those things. So it is gone, gone, gone. Definitely a project I could have done by myself, but something I am really glad to have done because it makes a vast improvement on the way my living room looks.
Oh, we also had to say goodbye to Lydia the other day. Sad really. A true downfall of this program, and becoming friends with other foreigners here. They are always 1 to 2 year friendships, and then that's it. Sad, sad, sad.
Oh, and on a completely different note. For those of you reading this, I have set up a comment account. So if there is a post that you want to make a comment about, or question, please feel free to do so. I mean after all, that is why I made it. Feedback is definitely welcome. If you don't want to make a specific comment to a post, then I also have the tag on the side for anything you want to say. Yes yes, let us all be more interactive.
wax on, wax off.
For once I am REALLY excited to go home and see what my house looks like. I will let you all know.
