Sunday, possible the best day of the week (in my opinion). This weekend has felt like a week. Friday, Christina and I went to Sapporo to see an orchid show. There was over 350 different kinds of orchids, I'm sure I took about 200 pictures. They were so strange, unique, and gorgeous. But the peacefulness of their beauty was saddened by the fact that they were inside under these big lights. But regardless it was great. Next was supper and Starbucks, oh great giver of hot liquid and chat. Tim and Laura switched houses with us, and so they were doing a snowboard day, and we got a place to stay in Sapporo for free. Always good. The next day we drove to Makkari for the international festival. It started at 2pm and went until 7pm. Definitely a thumbs up to Anita the organizer. We were broken up into 4 teams, red, yellow, blue, and green. I got to be green, Christina yellow, Lydia blue, Jason blue and Anita red. We then had to go through this obstacle course in partners, which included wheel barrowing, throwing a ball into a bucket, jumping over hurdles, and running on a balance beam, only to flip over a card, put on a costume and run hand in hand with your partner across the finish line. It was pretty amusing, and us foreigners had to do it twice, and were sweating afterwards. Go green!
Next came the snowball capture the flag. Yellow won that. There were snow walls and everything, and I got belted in the face and got a tiny cut on my lip. OUCH!!!!! War wound, war wound.
Then Nick (green), Eugene (red), Dave (red), Steve (green), and Matt (yellow) arrived. We went inside after that for snacks and a game show. The four teams had to pick a ball which would determine either playing pictionary, singing a song in Japanese for the foreigners, and English for the students, dancing, or charades. It led to a couple of great dancing performances. Pretty entertaining all in all. After that was sumo wrestling in home made sumo suits. Someone even went to the trouble to make them atomically correct. The guy before me had torn off the sumo belt thing, so when I went to put on the suit the lady just took off the hanging belt thing, and revealed a stapled on small penis. It was CRAZY! Ahhh Japan.
After that it was clean up and off to domestic stuff. And now you are here with me on Sunday. Cup of tea?
Enjoy the sunshine.
Peace.
