Me and Chou-chan at the first moat and main entrance to the Ninjo-castle. It was originally built in 1603 and intended to be the official Kyoto residence of the first Tokugawa Shogun Ieyasu. The fifteenth Tokugawa Shogun, Yoshinobu, returend sovereignty to the Emperor in 1867 and the castle was then given to the Imperial family.
