sick weekend
The weekend started off with me being ill, it ends with me being ill. But there are a lot of things in between those two points. First off, on Friday night Mark, Danny, and Kimberly stayed over. We were woken up an hour early Saturday morning to my Japanese friends. That definitely was a surprise. Instead of snowboarding I went back to bed and was feeling deathly ill. But Laura and Naomi took the bus up to Kimobetsu so that we three could drive to Otaki village (about 30 min away) for a party, hotel stay, and then a cross country ski marathon. Since I really wanted to go, but knew for my health I shouldn't, I packed a bag anyway. Just in case I felt better sometime during the night. So once they got here we hung out, and then drove to Otaki. What we thought was going to be a little event, was not. First of all we check in to the hotel, SHOCKED at how big the place was for a little village, shocked even more that the town was giving us a free hotel stay, free meals, paid for our entry fee and ski rentals, free lunch, free onsens, and a whole lot of other things, like little prizes and gifts. Anyway, so we check in, and our assigned gaijin handler gives us the information packages as to when we need to be where. We check out our room, find Deb in there, hang out. Then we all go down to eat and drink at one of the best buffets I have ever been at. The food was AMAZING. As you can tell by my many pictures. Anyway, after that there was either onsening, kareoking, or for me, bed time (or what turned into talk time with Deb). I got to bed before 10pm, and woke up feeling GREAT. So I decided, why not, I am going to ski in this 6km marathon after all. Turns out this little ski event that we thought we were going to plays host to 1000people skiing. We get there, and have people waiting to take us through EVERY step. And once the race started we even had our own guide. So we took it slow, and were almost the last ones in the 6 km race to finish. But considering I was still on antibiotics, still hosting a fever, and super tired, that ain't bad. So another thing to chalk up the list. Cross country ski marathon. After that the people took care of us, and when we finally did leave, we went and had a free onsen. Well Deb, Laura, and Naomi did, I fell a sleep on the tatami mats. So basically my weekend can be summed up as illness, good times, and amazing people. Enjoy the pictures, if this paragraph is unreadable or filled with spelling errors it is becuase it is WAY past time for me to drug myself and get to bed.
