First Snow
There are certain nights when fairies dance in the moonlight on tree tops. Last night was one of those. The snow came yesterday, white flakes hurled from the sky. The first snow came in the form of a blizzard. Perhaps an indication of the long awaited passionate release, perhaps a warning.
My phone just rang...message playing.
It seems Jack has found out about the snow and is already hiking Hiarafu as I write this. About to get in the first ride of the season. I dream of being outside.
I always thought my favourite season was fall, or spring, warmer places, warmer things. But there is an amazing excitement that makes me feel so alive when I see the white magic falling.
Although driving through it last night to meet Mark was scary. With only a few hours of sleep the night before, and new winter roads, oh and new winter tires (there goes $400), off I went. We saw the Motorcycle Diaries, which promised to be good, promised to be in English, but turned out to be in Spanish with Japanese subtitles...yup. I guess at least one promise was kept. So we just watched the movie as we would a silent film. Making up the dialogue and piecing together the story based on what we thought would fit. I feel I enjoyed the movie more because of it, although without the comparison it is hard to make that kind of judgment. After that, air hockey, bowling, horse racing, and some sticker making, it was time to go home. A fun night came to a close.
The drive back was MAGICAL! The blizzard had, unfortunately for Mark, moved past Sapporo and was visiting his path home. The road I was on, was being sprinkled and sparkled with light snow flakes. Meanwhile a full moon lit up the land as if it was a darkened day. No one on the road for it was in the early hours of the morning, and with God's guidance, Mark and I both managed to make it home safely.
I think perhaps my lesson today should be how to make a canadian snowman, or something outside. Get me outside!! An office colleague has just commented how I seem to be sleeping during summer and bouncing off the walls in winter. Perhaps I have this hybernation schedule mixed up. But right now, happiness is spreading. I am laughing as loud as I can, without hesitation, and loving all around me. Life, really is beautiful! And the snow...did I mention the snow? In my heart I am making snow angels. In my heart I remember being 3 years old, hanging on the couch and watching the land be covered with a silent awe. In my heart, I whisper winter.
