Old friends and hamburgers

Another sunny Sunday. I truly do love Sundays. My weekend has been pretty relaxed, after the huge shopping day in Sapporo on Friday. Nothing like spending over $1000 in a few hours. YIKES. Of course it wasn't on any fun toys or clothes, nope, come Christmas I am heading back to North America. Plane ticket people, plane ticket. I am excited, terrified, and all of those things, it has been SO long since I have been back to that side of the world.

Speaking of that side of the world. I called Dawn today. One of my greatest friends since grade 8!!!! Yep, a long time ago. Of course the greatest thing about talking to someone who has known you that long is they see right through you and you can be completely honest and open to them as you would yourself and they will still be there for you. And me and Dawn have definitely been through a lot and I love her to pieces. She really is a great friend. And the best part is no matter where life takes either one of us, I know I can call her up 6 months, 2 years, whenever, down the road, and the friendship will still be there. Never replaced, never forgotten. Yes, here is to old friends!

But getting back to it, basically, we caught up, and she shocked me as to how much time had passed. What is happening on that side of the world, and just how out of the loop I now am. Yep, gone.

I am not sure why I would think that life would somehow be frozen on that side of the world until I got back from this one. Somehow the pictures and memories in my mind feel current, despite the years of dust.

Each day, something to do, someone to meet, a job, a class, and then in one moment it all freezes. And you realize that 3, 4, 5 years have past by without you even knowing it. Makes me wonder about all this time I keep looking to the horizon, trying to nurture growth for my soul, yet all the while things close to my heart, close to me, have grown and changed without me even knowing it.

My eyes are open now, the net of my life, built from my heart strings...it's there...it's here...it's me. I have love for you all.

But now I must be off and go make hamburgers for the Saitou family. Beautiful spirited, and gorgeous souls, I do adore this family. Nothing like making hamburgers and fries when you are a vegetarian. But I do love the smell of barbecues, makes me think of home. Outside, on the patio, dad cooking, sitting in the sun. Okay enough reminiscing, it is off to prepare the meat!
